For the most part, shouldn't lasers be invisible along their length,
unless you blow smoke at them or something?

Well, that was just a quick knock off to show what I meant. I agree that
it barely looks like smoke. It's just a rotating bozo.
I suspect that media with the same pattern would look better.

all light in lasers has the same direction, so the beams shouldn't become
wider along their way. But maybe this is caused by perspective. If so,
please don't flame me! ;-)

They are becoming narrower along their way, because of perspective, you
