For a while I couldn't view DivX movies, as they would show as a single
static frame only. Some others were having the same problem.

Just wanted to let you know that installing the latest version of DivX
fixed the problem for me.

http://www.divx.com

However, I still recommend encoding animations for
povray.binaries.animations in mpg format if you want everybody to be
able to see them...

On the other hand, it's nice if an animation takes only half the filesize.
And the group has size limit as well... :)

I have a slow connection myself, but I still prefer mpg.

Sometimes I download animations while I'm at school, and there I'm not
allowed to install anything, including DivX.

For posting I prefer small mpg files. If I have bigger mpg files and/or divx
versions, I simply put them somewhere on the web and mention their urls in
the post.

I like that.. at home I only have dial-up, so I prefer if the animation
posted is a kind of teaser to the bigger one, to see if I really want to
take my time to download it. Remember someone did that with those nice cloth
animations some time back.

I'm not very sure, but I believe that the "official" version of the DivX
codec is found at http://www.projectmayo.com

I've heard that the www.divx.com version contains lots of spyware and may
contain some unofficial changes to the encoder.

Anybody can confirm this?

Fernando.

The free version does not contain adware. If you want the pro-version for
free, it comes bundled with the Gator GAIN adware/spyware proggie.

(Btw, you can install it and then remove GAIN with ad-aware and the pro codec
will still work.)

Which I have done recently, to my great satisfaction. You can really feel
the difference.
