I lowered the elasticity of the balls and increased their number.
I'm thinking about using a blob (and much more particles) next time, but you
can bet it will be very slow.
Comments, criticisms, suggestions?

The realism of the simulation is outstanding!
But it looks unnatural to have the balls emitted from a single point. Try to
emit them from an area instead and then let them fall down more straight
(initials directions should have less randomness).
Keep up the good work! :)

These animations look great JRG. Maybe you could try varying the colour of the
balls as they drop, to form coloured layers as the container fills up. Was there
a reason you didn't fill the container? Does the render time balloon as more
particles are checked for collisions?

You're right. Maybe if the balls were shot by a cannon of some sort?...

The animation would have been far too big to be posted here... but yes,
parsing time increases drastically as the number of particles grows :( The
last frames took about 9-10 seconds to parse (and a few seconds to trace),
but if more balls were involved I bet that time would grow more than
exponentially!

I love this animation! I agree with Rune; the realism is just outstanding.
Great job, JRG.

Absolutely stunning! Just about everybody has beaten me to achieving such an
animation using POV code only, and I'm still non the wiser as how to
accomplish it. As this is by far the best POV particle interaction animation
I've seen, I would be extremely grateful if I could see your code, to try to
understand how to program such a system myself.

That's one of the most realistic animations I've ever seen ! Possible
expansion - different sizes of balls all together, some bog, some tiny.

More than exponentially is not possible.

what about "n!" ? (don't know the english word - you know, it's
1*2*...*(n-1)*n)
I'm not sure at all, but lim(2^n/n!) = 0 if n goes to infinity?

Yes, please show us the code.
I want to see how the hole container fills with balls.
PLEASE!!!
