I've just started working a little on my particle system again. I've
implemented a new feature which is pretty basic but very useful nonetheless.
It's the ability for the particle emitter to be an object rather than just a
point. Many of the particle systems I've been seeing have been able to do
that for a long time, so I thought I'd better catch up and implement it
too...

In this animation I used some simple lens flares for the particles. It's
just textured discs rotated to face the camera. It works fine in most cases,
but doesn't show up correctly in reflections etc. Anyway, I intent to take
this technique further despite the limitations as it's very fast and
flexible.

This animation is nothing special; I just wanted to let you know how the
development is going - also because some people have asked me if I've
abandoned my particle system, which definitely isn't the case... :)

Looks good! Could you implement some motion "inheritance"? meaning that
the particles will gain some speed in the direction the object is moving.

Pretty, but at about ~1/3rd of the way through the anim, you get what
appear to be conincident surface problems. Or maybe it's due to the
compression, but there are definitely some black areas appearing where
there shouldn't be any.

Bye for now,
     Jamie.

Could be, but I can't figure out how to get Media Player to show frames
rather than time base...

Bye for now,
     Jamie.

I've had support for that for a long time, but it works for translation
only, not rotation etc., so in this particular animation it wouldn't look
very good.
