Pretty, but at about ~1/3rd of the way through the anim, you get what
appear to be conincident surface problems. Or maybe it's due to the
compression, but there are definitely some black areas appearing where
there shouldn't be any.

Could be, but I can't figure out how to get Media Player to show frames
rather than time base...

I've had support for that for a long time, but it works for translation
only, not rotation etc., so in this particular animation it wouldn't look

If they're simply 2-D images aligned towards the camera, then rotate them
about the y axis a random amount between zero and .01 degrees.
