hello there people,
this idea is nothing new, it's just my first attempt at this particular
technique in povray (lighting a radiosity scene with an image).
check out some of the siggraph stuff from the last 3 years - the only
name i can remember is "fiat lux".
there are no lights in this scene, all 'light' is coming from the sky
sphere which is mapped with a crappily painted spherical image map of a
tree scene. the head is a mesh textured white. the head actually has a
very slight normal on it and with 'normal on' in the radiosity block, it
seems to break up the low rad samples and blend them out a little.
the next animation in this thread is exactly the same but with an
enironment map from pixar's "geri's game", found in the "advanced
renderman companion" book.

Reminds me of the 'Wild Boys'-video by Duran Duran. There was an android
head in this video which looks a lot like this one!
