I re-watched independence day last night (I'm Canadian, the fact I happened
to watch it shortly after July 4th happens to be a coincidence), anyway as I
was watching it dawned on me that I could reproduce the effect in povray. so
after a hour or so of tinkering...

It could use a bit of improvement but I think it looks kind'a cool.

Lookin good so far, i think you will get a better effect if you include a
background in your scene and set the colour of the 'sheild' to contrast

Looks nice, though the animation is a little choppy.
AFAIR the effect was also somewhat slower, i.e.
longer visible in the movie.

Keep it up!
