Which is probably Fernando and Apache currently (apologies to anyone else not
mentioned). Have you experimented with the cloth sim which is part of POVman
0.71.4? I know that re-inventing the wheel is fun (particle system anyone?), but
this simulator can do wind, rudimentary collision detection (this is _slow_), the
cloth can interact with many pov objects, etc. The code behind it may inspire
your own efforts as readers of p.b.a enjoy your anims.

An example anim that I did with this package (at least 6 months ago) can be found
at

http://www.geocities.com/m_j_lewin/cloth1.mpg

It includes friction, changing wind, poor lighting, horrible textures, etc. It is
876kb which is a little too large to post here.

I have checked it out, but the thing cannot do rubber objects, spheres and
so on.

Hi Mark,

I thank you for your link, but as you said, the excitement of reinventing
the wheel is precisely what moves me to do this simulations :)

I hope that one day I will be able to simulate what you've just done with
that package, which looks beautiful, by the way.

Thanks again,

Fernando.

I absolutely agree.

Additionally, reinventing weels can lead to better weels.... I don't think
that I ever will with my rubbery sheets though ;-)

Geocities doesn't wanna let me see it for some reason. I downloaded
df3maker however; is there any chance of getting a copy of df3viewer? I
could just write a POV file to do the same job, but...

I understand :-) I just tried to point you towards some inspiration.

I am sure you will much more. Good luck with it.

I apologize if my post came across as an effort to degrade your recent efforts,
or those of Fernando, though that was not the intention. I meant to show you what
other 'wheels' can do; compare them and take the best from both :-).

Your rubbery sheets are impressive in themselves.

Geocities is restrictive of data transfer off their free hostings, and of linking to
files only. Try the link at

http://www.geocities.com/m_j_lewin/index.html

I sincerely appreciate your help. It really helps me to see more objectively
the quality of my latest results, which I have not posted because they are
not very good at all.

I hope so!!! By the way, how fast is that package?

Thanks again,

Fernando.

Don't be disheartened. My posts are few and far between for the same reason.

> I hope so!!! By the way, how fast is that package?

It is tolerable (except if it checks for self collision), but I am sure you can
appreciate the CPU grind that occurs when you have to check 2500+ points on a
cloth :-)
