Reminds me of MRI (magnetic resonance imagery) except that it's reaching way
beyond the boundary of the actual guy.  Really cool effect.

I think it would look cooler if the person were incorporated into the scene,
walking through the proximity box.

You see a black 'doorway', perhaps with a techie frame. Slowly the blue
appears, and colours increase. Suddenly a hand reaches through the door,
surrounded by the coloured halo. The rest of the body follows, and when it's
through, the door fades back to black.

I like it!

I was thinking of some kind of techie frame to catch an invisible man,  or
somehow turning this into a way to make someone melt or through a doorway, if
this were set up as a heightfield as the visible character actually walked
though. As I said I originally thought i could make a shroud of Turin with the
details from the face...
