I seem to be having trouble joining mpegs correctly. I've been using
Camel's MPEG Join program (well, the Windows front-end) to combine multiple
mpegs into one, but I seem to get a green frame between the joins.
The attached example shows what I mean. I had two mpegs (both built with
CMPEG) and simply joined them together. They are identical images (in
reverse order) so I doubt it could be a problem with dissimilar mpegs.
Any ideas?

I've used VideoMach to join mpg's without any problem. (It's free for
personal use.)

I really can't see a green frame (using mtvp to play inside Netscape).

Thanks, Dave. I'll try VideoMach and see if the results are better.

Hmm. Using Windows Media Player (v. 7), I seem to get a green frame at the
join (halfway through the animation I posted, when the ball is at its
smallest). Anyone else see this, or just me?

Seen it too, also in WMP 7, just no idea why. If the frame sizes weren't
converted or anything, and obviously they weren't, it is strange that would
happen. If the two adjacent frames at the merge are identical maybe it
drops it out and a bug leaves the green empty frame. Either that or a
setting to deal with identical frames in some manner might be in there.

Thanks, Bob. I'll look into both possibilities. In the meantime, Dave
Blandston's advice (using VideoMach) has been a big help. Appreciate all of
your insights.

My WMP7 viewer does show the green frame, like you said.
Importing join.mpg into MainActor though, shows a little more than half
of the animation: no green frame! Did you have 24 frames originally? And
was the size of the sphere increasing again after no 22?
When you have uncompressed TGA's and when you simply want to invert the
sequence in the second part of the animation, you could try MPEG, and
perhaps my Windows front end to it...

Frames 1 through 24 show the ball decreasing in radius, while 25 through 48
are the same images in reverse order (so 24 and 25 should be identical).
CMPG will join the entire 1-48 frames without trouble, and the problem only
seems to arise when two mpegs are actually joined together using Camel's
MPEG Join. VideoMach doesn't produce the green effect.
I've tried re-joining the two mpegs, but first I removed frame 25 from the
second file (so there would not be two identical frames) and the problem
still persists.
I do like your front-end, though! It's been quite handy. Thanks!

Try making sure that each mpeg ends on an I frame. It will be tough to define
a GOP format of 23 (24-1) frames though.
IBBPBBPBBIIBBPBBPBBPBBI might work. (not reverse symmetrical but nobody really cares)
