I've been working on my own Luxo Jr.-style desk lamp lately. (Luxo Jr.
was Pixar's original animation featuring two desk lamps.) I basically
copied the design down to the details, so would it be some sort of
copyright infringement if I posted my own animations of a hopping lamp
to this group? I would hate to make anyone mad even though most likely
no one would ever know the difference. Thanks.

I think it should be okay, this is just a newsgroup and it's not for
commercial use use, only for your own purposes. Disney does press
litigation against anyone who doodles mickey mouse while talking on the
phone ;)

I could be wrong though, but that's my opinion.

How about asking Pixar? I'd think they'd be
very friendly (like telling you: ah, private use,
no problem, give us credit, give a link to our
site... don't sell). That's what I'd expect from
their type of animations, but I could be wrong...

[I'd say it's better for everyone if we avoid top-posting.]

And I guess they've got their lawyers... :P If it's amazingly good, and
it starts spreading on the net, it will certainly cause trouble IMO. Or
maybe I just need to argue? :) Also, I don't think that Pixar will give
their permission very quickly (if at all). They've become a big company
with their decision-making mechanisms and all. :P
