I'm running the unofficial compile of RC2 for Mac 64 bit on a Intel Core 2 Duo
running Mac OS X 10.5.8 (4gb of RAM).
I have a file "scherk.pov" which includes a large (about 6 mb) scene file that
was generated by Mathematica. Scherk.pov is set to load a different file for
each value of the clock (so I'm using animation). In scherk.pov, there is a
nested while loop. If the size of these two loops is 4 and 2 (outer and inner),
then the scenes compile fine and the clock works normally. If the size of these
two loops is 5 and 2, then the first scene compiles fine, and the second scene
fails to compile (the message reported is that the operation timed out). If I
render again, I get the error "Parse Error: Cannot open input file." If I push
render again, the first frame renders fine.
I see that this error has been reported before, for example:
http://news.povray.org/povray.beta-test/thread/%3C4c4ad593@news.povray.org%3E/
and
http://news.povray.org/povray.windows/thread/%3Cweb.4cf1c24e963f566b53793d520@news.povray.org%3E/
On my laptop (Mac OS X 10.6.6, Intel Core i5, 4gb ram), the 5 and 2 loops run
fine once; then I get the parse error if I try to rerender.
I looked in the bug tracker but wasn't able to find any relevant bugs.
Shall I file a bug report, or are there some troubleshooting things I should try
first? Am I simply asking too much of POVRay? (There are 1967735 finite
objects in the scene --- is that too much? I'm pretty sure I've rendered include
files much bigger than this before, but I've never used while loops much
before.)
Thanks,
Adam
