I can't compile 3.7.0.RC2. Can anyone help? When I run "make check", I get the
following:
In file included from ../../source/backend/control/renderbackend.h:101,
from ../../source/backend/control/messagefactory.h:100,
from ../../source/backend/frame.h:117,
from vm/fnpovfpu.cpp:296:
token
I'm also unable to compile beta 41. The revision info from
source/backend/povray.h is
* $File: //depot/povray/smp/source/backend/povray.h $
* $Revision: #77 $
* $Change: 5346 $
* $DateTime: 2011/01/05 07:49:23 $
Here's the full transcript of what I did:

builds ok for me ... 32bit opnsuse11.2
try a different configure string for:
./configure --with-boost-thread=boost_thread-mt
COMPILED_BY="jus### [at] testingorg"
I see that your transcript says it found 1.37 boost (/might/ be a
different directive on 64bit sys dunno) also your configure directive
calls for openexr but the transcript says no go ... so I'm suspecting
your setup. Have you recently added packages that you're built from
source ie: some of the requirements for povray and not refreshed your
library cache? ... ldconfig for me. Usually packages installed through
some platform specific tool (YaST) on my system it does that for you,
but when you drive the command line you need to do that.

It also compiles fine here with Fedora 14 at first try... I didn't
even need to specify "--with-boost-thread" this time.

just built out of the code repository and the boost configure directive
doesn't seem to be required anymore ... must have been the include that
Chris added ... but hey (ha-ha) given my track record as of late I won't
go to the bank with that!

I'm sorry, but as usual I talked too soon: make did fail. Finally I
had to specify:
--with-boost-thread=boost_thread-mt
for it to compile, so it must have nothing to do with the missing
include.

I suppose that I'd expect that you would have to as his change went in
last evening after posting the RC2 linux source ... or so it would seem.
I did however see an odd error when I did a sync with the code
repository ... ~source/unix/configure.ac was writable and perforce
issued a warning about not being able to clobber that file. chmod 444 on
the file and I was able to pull the new file.
After doing make distclean I did prebuild.sh (because i'm building
direct in my local version of repository on my system) in the unix
directory, but I'm seeing some warnings (unfamiliar) that urge me to do
autoupdate. So for whatever it's worth it DID build without the boost
configure directive. Hmmmmm

../configure \
--with-boost-thread=boost_thread-mt \
COMPILED_BY="RC2"
make -j 2
make check
checkinstall (to build Slackware package)
just built and installed a seemingly working RC2 on Slackware 13.0 x86_64
No unexpected messages. make check looks OK.
My 30 minutely povray cronjob looks OK too - http://tinyurl.com/3xgm2sl

Peter

Just for info, I need to specify --with-boost-thread in ./configure else make
fails. Slackware 13.0 x86_64, boost 1.38.
Cheers,
Peter

I have two machines with Fedora 14 installed, one has "i386" architecture and
the other is "x64".
I need to add --with-boost-thread=boost_thread-mt to ./configure to make
povray 3.7.0.RC2 compile on the x64 machine, whereas this is not necessary
on the i386 machine.
