I installed Beta26 over Beta25 and was given a warning (?) to install
it with the /INSTALL option. I did this and although Bishop3D starts
pvengine-sse2.exe it will not run the generated pov file. I
reinstalled Beta26 in a separate directory and I am still using
Beta25.
OK. I know that using two Beta programmes is not the best idea in the
world. But Beta25 did render even if it did not send the image back to
Bishop3D.

OK Stupid! <Boom, boom> :-)

Copy the beta to a directory under PovRay. Open a dos box in that
directory and type pvengine.exe/install or pvengine-sse2.exe/install.
If you don't install it under the PovRay directory the beta complains
that it can't find colors.inc etc.

I expected that coming... :-)

Hm. OK. Makes sense. I wonder why this was not necessary with beta 25. Has
to do with the registry I guess...

Thanks Stephen! I shall try this out.

After you do and it doesn't work you need to edit the Registry (This
is an oops for me).
Manually copy the
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\POV-Ray\v3.6\Windows\Engine\GUIExtensions"
entries to
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\POV-Ray\v3.7\Windows\Engine\GUIExtensions"
and it works.
(Use your own directory settings)

I need to test a few other things in the Registry as I changed the
pointer in Bishop3D to pvengine.exe from pvengine-sse2.exe to get it
to work.

You know, Stephen, I sincerely wonder if we need to do all this registry
editing and so on. Wouldn't those instructions have been given with the zip
in the first place if that were the case? Beta 25 which was basically
identical to beta 26, did not need all that, so what is the matter here? I
have the feeling there is something fundamentally amiss...

Well I only started using the Betas a month ago so I might have missed
something earlier on. I think Chris is slowly changing the INI to Reg
stuff. Also Hugo (Bishop3D) said that the GUI Extensions are not fully
implemented and I imagine not many people are using the Beta with
Modellers.
I think that I have found a separate bug and wonder if you would look
at the files that I will send you a link separately.

You would not normally need to do registry editing, perhaps I have a bug in
the migration code for the GUIEXT settings.

As for the /install switch, it's been present for a long time (it's in
3.6). It's intended for cases where POV was installed without using the
setup program, which is for all intents and purposes now the case since the
EXE is no longer sharing the version 3.6 settings and directory structure.

I ought to put together an installer now that this is the case.

Thank you indeed, Chris. Very clear. I understand now the procedure.
An installer would be nice indeed. :-)
