Here are some additional instructions for the Linux beta version.

The package is only for x86 PC Linux, it should run on any 586 or newer
with glibc 2.2 or newer. Those who know the 3.5 povlinux package should
have no problems installing, for everyone else: untar the package ('tar
xvfz povlinux-3.6.beta.1.tgz') and see the README file for further
instructions.

New features and changes from 3.5 to 3.6:
-----------------------------------------

Here is a short list of platform specific changes. Especially these
need beta testing of course.

- new install script that allows both system wide (as root) and user
level install. There are various possibilities to do the installation
so there might be problems in some cases. Before you report a problem
make sure you read the text the install script prints on the screen
carefully, in some cases there are additional actions required to get a
working installation.

- new documentation format. It has been tested with several newer
browsers, Netscape 4.x will not work well unless you disable style sheets.

- new io-restrictions configuration file format. The new format is not
compatible to 3.5 so after installing 3.6 beta a POV-Ray 3.5 installed
on the system will no more work. You can work around this by using a
minimal povray.conf containing:

[File I/O Security]
none

[Shellout Security]
allowed

This will work for both 3.5 and 3.6 but note this will disable
io-restrictions completely.

- sample scene render scripts. See section 1.3.6 of the docs for
instructions how to use them.

- benchmark rendering mode: see section 1.6.2 of the docs.

- KDE integration (file types and panel icons) If someone here is
familiar with doing the same kind of thing in GNOME this would be helpful.

- various internal changes not directly visible to the user.

Reporting problems about the Linux beta:
----------------------------------------

In addition to what has been said about bug reports in general please
make sure you include the following information:

- your Linux distribution
- where you installed POV-Ray 3.6 beta
