I have a scene that occasionally fails to render in 3.7 Beta 38 with the
(It renders OK the second time I render it.)
I see that Roman had the same error message in Dec 2008 but that was for
64 bit and concerned radiosity. My problem concerns making lots of
can I report it and upload the file?

http://bugs.povray.org should have everything you're asking for.

Thanks Christoph,
I've uploaded a scene file (Parse Error: Cannot open input file) to
p.beta-test.b for testing and confirmation before filing a bug report.

Same here, beta.38 64bit version.
Actually I can't think of any reason why POV-Ray should abort parsing
that scene - which obviously has no other input files except the main
scene file - with that error message. Except maybe POV-Ray's attempt to
parse the file clashes with an attempt of the editor to save the file.
Do you happen to have auto-save enabled?

Well, now I've seen the message, too - after having set the #while loop
count to 1000 (instead of 100 as you suggested).
Tried it again multiple times, only to get various different error
messages. The second one I got seems most credible to me: "Out of memory".
Which indicates that we have some memory allocation attempts in POV-Ray
that aren't properly checked for success.

When I switched off auto save and increased the count to 200 I got an
unknown internal error. PovRay did nor release all ram and when I closed
PovRay I got a runtime error.
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Error
"This application caused the Runtime to close in an unusual way."

Yes ;-)
On one computer 300 will run out of memory, pov 32bit.
On another computer 700 still works, pov 64bit. Interestingly if I try to close
down POV-Ray after this render, I can get the 'runtime error', but waiting
several minutes and POV-Ray closes without problem. Still releasing memory?

Maybe I should have said that I am running 32 bit Win7 on an Intel core2
Duo with 3 Gigs of Ram and lots of other programs running.
If Christoph wants me to create a bug report I will if not...
