Was checking the web site for any news after the beta 30 expired today and
read about the delay from a HD failure. Thought that would be mentioned here
when I went looking for anything else being said about that.

Wondering if any donations are needed. Thinking I could give some $$ via
PayPal anyway, not sure how else.

Ta for the offer, at this stage all is OK (i.e. I have a spare hard drive). It's
getting the data across that is a pain, I have a three-week old backup but I'd
really like to recover the stuff I've done in the meantime. I'm working on that.

Oh. Only time and patience can help there. :)
Much easier replacing the hardware. Wishing you good luck retrieving those
files intact.

Didn't intend to bring up the subject of donations again, I know something
similar happened a while ago and had been explained it wasn't planned to put
a donations link on the POV-Ray web site. I had looked around there thinking
that idea might have changed, not just buy stuff through links.

Perhaps a remote backup might be in order...

I could offer some server space, or you could use something like
MozyHome (which is free for up to 2 gigs, or $4.95/mo for unlimited space).

With regard to the failed hard drive, do you know about the freezer trick?
It's worked for me a few times. After a drive has failed, sometimes you can
get it to run for a short time more if you place it in the freezer for an
hour (wrapped in polythene). Then take it out and connect it up immediately.
If it runs make sure you're ready to copy data off. It won't normally run
for very long, but possibly long enough to retrieve import data.
