Greetings!

There is a problem with POV-Ray Beta 13 I want to mention now.

The scene contains around six image files, half for sphererical textures and
half for bumps. Most of these image files have sizes over 16 MB.

I am starting the render, and POV-Ray begins to parse the scene, also to
process the various image files. For some reasons, I decided to press the
STOP button. And here now, while parsing, POV-Ray crashes with an error
message that it cannot read the memory. The crash happens only if I press
the STOP button while POV-Ray parses (probably parses the images).

My system:
Windows EX Media Edition
Dual Intel Pentium 4 CPU @ 3.06 GH
1.25 GB DDR RAM @ 333 MH

Greetings,

Sven

Hi,

It would help us if you can whittle the problem down to a minimal scene and
post it in the beta-test.binaries group.

thanks,

Sure. It will have the same headline for easier recognition. But what I
recognize is that this seems to happen only with relatively large image
files.

The scene which causes the crash is a simple scene, I will post the original
code. Maybe I am also posting those images which are small, otherwise I am
just adding (as comment) their file size in order to enable you use other
files of an equivalent size.

If nothing helps, I might have to offer to e-mail the original image files
to an address specified by you, but the upload would take a long time, so I
am not too eager for that solution. Only as last option.

Greetings,

Sven

I just tried to replicate the problem, and while I can't get it to crash per se,
I can reliably cause a VC++ runtime error. An example of this (which I think is
completely unrelated to the problem you're having) can be found, with an example
image, in beta-test.binaries.

Lance.
