Clicking the show button after hiding the render window does nothing.
Very simple to reproduce:
Start a rendering, preferrably one that will last long enough to try
this. Click Hide. This will hide the render window, and change the
button to read "Show".
Click the show button and observe the button state changes, but the
render window never reappears.
This is with 3.7 Beta 8

After you click the button and nothing happens, if you change the size of
the main window (or if you restore the window, in case it is maximized) the
display window appears.
