I still think that it is not a bad idea to get
code examples coloured in docs. An example
of 4.2.2 page is posted to povray.binaries.tutorials
together with povray35.css.  What do you think about it?

The problem is that css can't be put in the source of the docs, not all 
platforms support it in their help systems.

Well, I don't know in what form the help file is in other platforms, but
this css file I got
from the original povray35.chm and just have added several lines at the
bottom.
OK - there are always at least two ways to exit - what about <font>?

While you get your help in HTML, the documentation source is not maintained in
real HTML.  Thus the problem is not finding some tags to add coloring.

And what is it then?

I guess that the help files were generated automatically using perl script
( Generated by makedocs.pl version 1.0 rev 15 Copyright (c) POV-Team
1991-2001 )
from some collection of source files, but this is even better, than
to have them in html form only. At least w32 version help is already
coloured
except pov source code. It's a real pity if there is no solution for other
platforms.

All this is not actually for me, I can have it anyway.
And of course, this is not a first place question, even not a third one,
but...

The Windows help was made by this script, yes, it takes the doc source and
converts it to HTML Help format.

It is technically possible (in theory) to do what you do using CSS, as the
markup (using SPAN tags) can safely be ignored on other platforms. This is
only true if you use SPAN for coloring, and not for formatting (that is, the
code displays perfectly correctly on non-HTML or non-CSS-enabled viewers,
losing only their coloring and perhaps some optional font selection).

However, your demo page (while an admirable effort) has code that depends
too much on HTML formatting to be useful. As an example, try highlighting
and copying the example code in the real docs to the clipboard, then pasting
it into a text editor. You will find that this works fine.

If, however, you do the same thing with your demo page, you will find that
it does not !

Copying and pasting demo code is critical, so at the very least this would
have to be rectified.
