I get, for Slackware 14.[12] systems, '(c)'; tried with and 3.7.1 (alpha
and rc), and various 3.8.0, from alpha 9945627 to beta.1.  same for on a
Debian VM.  all but Debian "unofficial" versions built from tarballs.
