I rendered a 36-frame animation at Quality 10, and put the resulting bmp files
together using dtawin. I get strange pixelation effects, and trailing bits of
texture that I didn't see at Quality 5.

This happens to parts of the scene file that don't move, that don't experience
any changes in light, and since this is my first animation project, I'm not sure
where to start looking for answers and solutions.

Are you using some things like jitter (in lights) or rand? jitter is not
reccommanded for animations?
Your question is so evasive (!).

I'll check to see if jitter is on by default - I hadn't thought of that. Thanks!
I know it's hard to diagnose these sorts of things without seeing them
firsthand.

If I need to post an example - which group do I do it in? It's somewhat
confusing, what with all the different groups, and where you can and cannot post
attachments. I'll learn.

jitter is not set by default with lights.
You can post an example in PovRay Text-files/scene-files.

Or if the animation file is under 5 Meg in p.b.a.
You can upload it to you tube or the like and post a link.
Also, make sure that you are not using crand.
