hi,

i'm working on an animation, and things are going well so far. The only
thing is there is a _very_ hard deadline (it needs to be included in a
film) The deadline is about 23 Feb. 2006 and I still have a lot of coding
to. I think i can render it in about a week (using about 10 pc's), but if
things are running short then I may need some help at the very end. Is
there someone with some spare CPU cycles in days before 23 Feb. ?

some details:
-two planes, following spline curves over an ocean surface at sunset.
-(low-Q)radiosity, some clouds, etc.
-lightsys lighting include files
-about 120 seconds at 25 fps (3000 frames)
-w720 x h576 pixels each. (PNG)
-render time: less than 25 minutes render time per frame.
-unofficial MegaPov 1.21;
-setup is easy. all frames can be rendered using the same pov-file.

I should be able to render it all myself, but if not, is there someone that
can help out?

Jaap Stolk.

There's a PC gathering dust here. CPU is Intel 3.06 GHz and memory only 1
GB, but if it would help I'm offering it then.

Not too sure about uploading large files to send back, although I should
have 5 GB web space with 100 GB bandwidth very soon (by next week). Just
that my cable connection is limited 256 Kbps (actually less) upload speed so
that might go a little slow.

Thank you for your offer Bob!

I have access to a couple of 2..3 GHz AMD's but my own machine is a AMD 1.2
GHz with only 640MB of ram, so 3.06 GHz and 1 GB ram will be fine.

PNG's will be about 100..300 kb each, so you should be able to send them in
a few seconds each. I don't think a web space would help you, since you
still need to upload them to your site. you could send them to my gmail
address or I could enable the ftp server on my little web server at home. I
can give you some frames that render relativly slow, to improve the
render/send ratio :-)

I'm still aiming to render most (if not all) of the frames myself, but
render times can be a bit unpredictable now and then. I will know more
about how things are looking next week and let you know if I need any help.

thanks again,

Jaap Stolk. ( http://jwstolk.xs4all.nl )

Alright, great. You have good PC's there, actually. ;)

Careful not to let the deadline get too close before sending anything to me,
my e-mail address is found in these newsgroup messages:
omniverse@charter%net except for the percent symbol instead of dot for
disguise. So contact me whenever... just be sure to make the subject line
obvious, please, and I'll keep a lookout for it.

Wishing you success doing "most" of the frames.

Bob

Hello,

maybe I can help you too. I've got three PC's around me (Pentium @
2.4GHz, Athlon64 @ 3.5GHz and an Athlon @ 1.4GHz). RAM between 512 MB
and 1 GB. The Athlon64 may only calculate during the night, but the
Pentium can calculate the whole day.

If you need my help, just contact me... Best way via email. My
emailadress: foersterfrank(at)gmx.de Please use a good subject ;) I hate
emails without any subject ;)

So far,
Frank

update:

As expected, the scene coding took way more time than planned.
on the upside, even with the fully textured models, the render times are
very reasonable. about 50 seconds per frame. using a network of 10
computers i get it to 5 sec. per frame. so rendering can be done much
faster. I'm just eating into the time of the film editor (my nephew) and
hopefully I get some usable shots completed in time :-)

thank you all for responding, but i can't send a complete povray file in
time.

but it was a lot of fun, and you will definitely see this animation and many
more in the future.

I sure hope it was. I'm terrible under pressure. Good to hear you managed to
get quick render times and all.
Post (or link to) any animations and I'm likely to take a look at them...
even if I seldom have any comments.
