Hello,
I'm wanting to do a silly little outer space animation with planets
and spaceships. Probably gotta be some missiles launched and
and a cool explosion. I've found some nice spaceships and planets,
but I need an animated mid-air explosion. Does anybody know
where I can find one? I figure that sort of thing is probably above
my abilities right now. I'll probably have enough trouble doing the
animation.
Thanks, Miker

I am not quite sure, but I think Rune's particle system can do that. I have
seen a couple of examples on the web. If you do a search on google you may
be able to find it, or you just wait for someone to post an example here or
post a link to an example.
All the best
Fidel.

Thanks, Fidel. I might take a look at Rune's particle system. I did do a
search for "explosion" at www.povray.org and got 3 hits, but they were all
the same thing, which was just a very general discussion of what happens
during an explosion.
Thanks again, Miker

I haven't played with Rune's particle system yet, but I will dig my hard
drive to see if I can find the explosion file I was talking about. I'll post
it in the p.t.s-f if I find it.
All the best
Fidel.

I did a similar animation a while ago. Look back in this newsgroup for the
"space fight" threads started by me. At one point, someone inquired about
the explosions, and I gave them a little include file for them. They were
moderately realistic.

Would you send it to me, Slime? I searched the newsgroup but I pretty
well knew I wouldn't have much luck. I don't really understand the
mechanics of news servers, but I notice that old messages never hang
around long. I searched the newsgroup and the only message I found
was your new one. I went to www.povray.org and searched for "archives"
and "news server" trying to locate an archive, but I came up empty-handed.
I would be really interested in reading the space fight thread. If sending
the include file is not too much to ask, send it to:

Thanks, Dick. I downloaded it and I'll look it over. I had seen a couple
examples of it and it seemed to mostly involve an object breaking into
pieces, but what I have in mind is mostly just replacing the object with
a big billowing cloud of flame and smoke. I'm going to play with it today
and see what I can do with it.
Thanks again, Miker

Rune's particle system will take a little bit of time reading the
documentation to figure out, but the results can be very nice:
http://runevision.com/3d/include/particles/particles.asp
For an example of what can be done (with a brain as big as Rune's):
http://runevision.com/3d/include/particles/blowup.mpg
Make sure to give the terms of use a good look, since it has sparked some
debate. Although, I believe that Rune is not only generous, but a
reasonable person -- just asking him if you can use the system and
mentioning that it was used in a credit line will most likely suffice.
Turning it into a commercial package for Microsoft will probably not be
okay.

Thanks, Troy! The mpg was beautiful! Just what I want! I've downloaded
and looked over the daunting parameter list. I'm gonna render some of the
POVs. You went on to mention the controversy over the small print. Not
a problem for me. Giving credit is like a footnote. By acknowledging a
source, I can use something that's not mine and not be a thief. Can ask for
no better.
Thanks again, Miker
