Hi
I'm having trouble making a standard windows playable animation file
like AVI or Mpeg Is there an Off line program avaiable to do this from POV
output files?. If so where can I get it from? Exesive cost might be an
issue.

I have tryed DTA but when ever I try to make an AVI it performs an illegal
operation and shuts down, just as it tryes to make the AVI

Any clean surgestion greatfully execpted

Thankx

Depends in some ways on how many frames that you have...

To just combine frames into an animation, Fast Movie Processor
(http://www.bigfoot.com/~rapidi) is very easy to use and supports standard
codec output. However I found that it got a bit 'scratchy' on a 256Mb RAM
system when using approx 10,000+ frames... So it's not great for dealing
with film length...

There are others that no-doubt other people know the URLs for...

Regards,

Luke

Fast Movie Processor was long ago replaced by VideoMach - also free for
non-commercial use.

Or...

You could try TMPEnc (MPG encoder). Free, and getting better all the time:
http://www.tmpgenc.com/

Virtual Dub is a very nice AVI encoder with lots of filters - you can add
watermarks to your anims, and (with a bit of work) even add subtitles! You
can even set it up to 'stream' frames to TMPGEnc so that you can encode your
animation as an MPG (with your filters intact) without having to turn it
into an AVI first:
http://www.virtualdub.org/

Wa-hey!

Excellent, I get a new toy to do my encoding with :-)

Many thanks,

Luke

Correct, but will either of these assemble an AVI out of seperate frames?
That's usually all I use VideoMach for anyway, then use VirtualDub to
frameserve (applying effects) and TMPEnc to encode and multiplex my video
and audio to VCD format ( my best purchase of recent years was a Zenix DVD

widescreen TV!!)

All the best,

Yup. Virtual Dub can from sequentially numbered BMPs and TMPGEnc from
numbered BMPs, PPMs, JPGs and TGAs, though you have to 'export as file' to
make an AVI from TMPEnc as its mainly for encoding, er, MPGs.

Me too. I've done a compilation of anims downloaded from the net over the
years to watch on the telly in the comfy chair (not the comfy chair!)
instead of the scrunched up in front the monitor.

What a lazy fat pig I am.

Wa-hey!

TMPEGenc does a nice job of converting AVI files to mpeg files as well as
blending a sound track. And for the AVI files I usually use Animation Shop
Pro
