Hi Everyone,
I'm very interested in creating screen savers from video files... I noticed
a post some months past about encoding problems... (Have been offline from
PovRay News for some time :( )
Is there a freeware/shareware package that I can use to create the screen
savers? If I have to write a screen saver using custom software, what
language is best for coding screen savers? I have heard of Delphi mentioned
in the past with respect to this?
Any ideas/information would be most welcome,
Thanks in advance,
Luke

Could you precise target OS? For some windows you can make screen sever with
any mpg or avi. Check Google for "aviss.zip".

Thanks for that, I obtained the program and it did a great job...
However ideally I was looking for something that I could use to compile the
videos into .SCR files directly that I could then send to someone else as a
monolythic package. Is there a program that I could use for this?
Many thanks,
Luke

I don't know of any program that will do that. There might be some, I just don't
know them :-)
If nothing comes up (did you look at download.com?) I might be able to help you
out if you give some more details. If you want to start programming for yourself
it doesn't really matter which language you use. I use Delphi, it does the job,
other languages will too.
A bigger problem may be the video format and codec you want to use.
AVI is the simplest and by now you could expect everyone to have the DivX codec
installed.
Good luck,

I like the DivX codec very much since it's very efficient. Anyhow, with .mpg
(mpeg layer 1) files you can be very sure that people can view the file. But
mpeg isn't as compact as DivX.
