I tried to talk him into releasing it, but he said that some of the
source code was used in another program(one totally unrelated to
graphics, I believe).

Maybe if Mike Cliffton could release the file format layout someone with
more knowledge than I in programming can create a converter.  The file fomat
is in ascii.
