Extra. But did'nt you have trouble with selecting points of the front and at 
the back. A really good option would be to may choose to see and to select 
only front points, something like in Wings.

I just subdivide the rough model and then SHIFT-click (not drag) to select 
faces or points.  Click and drag, as you say, will get front and back.  But 
shift-click gets only the front.  Transforming the faces in the crude model 
makes finer changes to the subdivision surface.  When the subdivision 
surface looks good you can convert to mesh and repeat.

Deselecting the Outline checkbox under Display helps ease the clutter.
