All good questions because there are answers :-)
First you don't have to write povray textures, but you can, by typing them in
the text editor and checking for it to be included

You can name the povray texture whatever you want, provided you use the name
exactly as declared in the customPOV material replacement field.

You can either delare all materials one after the other in the same text file,
or use several text files all checked to be included. In theory it doesn't
matter (generally for convenience I declare them in the same text window, so
other use is less tested)

LanuHum wrote the Nodes system for POV-Ray only in his version of the exporter.
Someone could try and merge it into the official exporter if needed.
