I think it's because the guys are updating the povray.org website.
But yes, it is the longest time, (that I know of anyway).

It's come up before, and basically they refused help from anyone. Such a
shame as I'm sure a faster response would encourage more people to take an
interest.

Well, no, I know that they accepted help from at least one other guy
that I know of, but it doesn't seem to be working.

It is a shame that after all these years, the IRTC isn't the the
biggest and best tracing comp out there - it should be by now shouldn't it?
I'm just wondering what else could be done to 'beef' it up generally,
and get it working properly. I have to say though, that with all my
enthusiasm in my reply to Norbert in this thread, that I was really quite
disappointed with the last round. I've never marked so low as I did with
this one.
Anyway, here are some suggestions for all to play with:
o- Some kind of filter/rule to weed out unfinished/poor images. This will
then at least project a more 'serious' side to the comp.
o- We should have a dedicated team of volunteers - the more the merrier
because 'down time' with Real Life wouldn't be so much of a problem if
shared out.
o- Let's introduce prizes, nothing big, but something like a (framed?)
poster from Zazzle for the top six, (they each receive their own image).
Quick thought - there could be a sub-competition whereby all top winners
over the whole year are voted on, and the overall winner receives a
trophy/something for that year.
o- Dedicated view/vote/comment/result dates would be nice.

I definately agree.

I think this is would be a difficult task. After all this would mean that
somebody (who?) had to view all the images and make a choice to filter out
responsibility. Also, if you filter out poor images, where do you draw the
line? Art is after all a matter of taste. People already downvote these
images, those who make them just have to accept the vote they get, no harm
done.

Zazzle poster with your winning image on it would definately do the trick
for me! People would just have to remember to render their images in hi-res.

An extra competition of the winning images, may also work, but I think the
IRTC stats page
http://exether.free.fr/irtc/index.php?sub=site&lang=en
is already doing a invaluable job by giving people an overall

Just a half-thought out variation on the ideas here, feel free to ignore
this:
First people vote to choose maybe 20 images as the best. Then the the chosen
20 artists get one extra month to improve on their images if they want. In
the end a new vote is cast to choose the winning images from the improved
versions.
I already see three problems with this idea:
What to do this extra month? Should a new theme be chosen for people to work
on? Or will those who didnt get in top-20 just have to wait?
Who are allowed to vote the second time? I would suggest everyone who
participated initially..?
What to do with those who completely redesign their images in the second
round?
--
Some good points could be:
Some artists would use the extra month to improve the finer details of the
images. So overall the quality could improve. The voters would have
commented on their images in the first round so the artists would have
constructive criticism to build on in the second round as well.
This would give some participants an extra goal to reach. Now they
participate in the hope of getting to the second round. Its not just the
usual 3+3 prizes and then a hidden-away score list. This means the second
round should be big enough so at least some of the more hard-working
amateurs feel they have a chance.

Two Points:
1st:
Some folks seem to be able to find ways of accessing IRTC files before the
main page changes. If any kind person knows how to access the April 2006
Stills results and would like to share, it would be much appreciated.
2nd: RE:

Although I believe that giving images a "life after judging" in order to
benefit from constructive criticism is a good one in principle, I would be
reluctant to add more steps and complications to the official judging
process, which is presently dealing with issues relating to a transition in
volunteer administration. This forum, however, is a great place to for
artists to submit various versions of an image and get feedback both before
and after judging. (Some folks are doing it already.) Perhaps one might
suggest this to some of the beginning artists whose work presently shows up
the positive feedback and helpful advice would still make the effort
worthwhile. Also, the notion of finding some way of rewarding
after-the-competition efforts outside of the main judging process isn't a
bad one. Perhaps some of us could volunteer to work on this so as not to
heap even more work on the current IRTC volunteer admins.
Best Regards,
Mike C.

there is a ftp adress, which normally is updated earlier than the main page
http://www.irtc.org/ftp/pub/stills/2006-04-30/ .

A web forum, and threads where participants HAVE to post their WIPs... a la
CGTalk. Just a little bit more aimed to amateurs...
I'd love that.
