The old silent movies always seem to have it up longer than a person 
would take to say it. And they paused talking on the screen to keep it 
in sync.

Maybe a little late, but I've tried a little research, as I'll need
subtitles for my IRTC-Entry as well. This link might aid you in choosing
durations for the subtitles:
