As of 2200 EST on 14 Jan, there are 21 entries in the IRTC. This is
an improvement over the last round (9 entries), but the topic made it
easier for the typical POV-Ray user to participate.

Should be one of the better rounds.

Regards,
John

I agree. There should be more than 21 though. Deadline dodgers and all
(like me:)
Hope you get higher placing than normal, John.

Same to you. I just counted, and there are now 31 entries, with only
200 minutes left until the deadline.

First of all, I must say that there appears to be an unusually high
quality of entrants this time: real imagination and story telling. Just
looking at the posters page almost chokes me up (no kidding!). My
compliments to the topic choosers! This IS also an unsually "democratic"
topic, and we need more good topics! Also, just looking at the posters
page, I will have no qualms whatsoever this time if I fall into the
bottom third: there are that many good pieces of storytelling.

As for the "Big"ness, that is a serious problem, with over 168 MB of
files to download, if one wants to judge this round. I'm actually
wondering if I shall vote! It may be hard to download these many files on
my home 56k modem, and I may push the envelope of my employer's
generosity if I d/l this much at the office!

I strongly recommend that IRTC go back to a 3 MB limit. With 40 entries,
we could have had 200 MB to d/l!!

Actually, there were a large number of entries because the topic
suggests things that are easy to model; specifically, robots are
one of the easiest things of popular interest to do in Pov-Ray.
The current topic "Life" will probably bring a slew of Conway's life
animations, but I hope there is more originality than that.

John

I think that the topic of the animation competition should always be
this easy if we want lots of participants.
On the other hand, perhaps more difficult topics in the stills competition
could calm down the overhelming entrants amount.
