I've done them, and so have others.  Some have placed, and others have
gotten honorables.

It doesn't matter if it's cyclical, especially if you're good at hiding
the fact that it's cyclical.  The robots playing ping-pong back in the
"Games" round (Oct 1998, IIRC) did this very well.
