I have been using, or trying to use, thunderbird, and more recently
betterbird to read the posts from this server for a while. Recently I
have run into cases of it just crashing out on me within seconds of
clicking on a post. I finally figured out what "one" of them at least
had that was different - it contained not a sensible "zip" file, or the
like, but an actual EXE. Not sure why this is the case, other than that
maybe the "preview" functionality for showing things in-message, is
somehow trying to "show", i.e., run these things, and the client is
going, "Nope!", and crashing. But.. I have to wonder, having noted this
case, if somehow this is what is taking place.
In any case, I would recommend, just for sanity sake, if these where
zipped anyway. And, maybe, if its just me, or if others might be having
the same issue, this would also resolve crashes.
Its annoying when a crash does happen, because the client "forgets"
everything you did that session for me. As in, it reverts back, not to
the point just before the message you clicked that caused it, but to
before you even started reading any from the server at all. This makes
pinning down both a) what is causing it, and b) why, and even c) which
message. I just got real lucky this time, since the one that caused to
thing to blow up happened to be both clearly labelled as a new utility,
and I got a brief flash of the message, just before things went boom, so
knew what to look for. :(
