I have a friend who believes that Earth is flat. I happen to live near a large
lake so I thought it would be fun to conduct a visibility test with a bright
spotlight. My first thought was that we would need as much distance as possible
but it turns out that five or six miles is more than enough distance. Perhaps
next time my friend visits we'll give it a try. Computing the required distance
did turn out to be very educational though. Here's a sample output image from
the program (which I posted in the text scene files section).
