yeah - I've to admit, the image isn't that bad.

Imho there are some points worth mentioning (look at the image detail):

- extreme light color (srgb <2.42,1.33,0.07> - sky color sums up to grey)
- subsurface lighting for the owl
- small normals for the snow
- downsizing from a 8000x4500 pixel render

the last three points are hardly visible, but contribute much to the "beauty".
