Those artifacts look suspiciously triangular to me. If the ring is sitting on a
smooth cylinder, what is that cylinder exactly? (a primitive cylinder, a mesh
cylinder, a mesh2 cylinder, etc.).

I can't quite visualize what's really going in this scene...
