Boost seems to install libraries differently for different versions.
On Slackware-13.0 with boost 1.38 I use:
../configure \
--with-boost-thread=boost_thread-mt \
COMPILED_BY="Beta41 (expires 2020)"

and on Slackware-Current with boost-1.45
../configure \
 --with-boost-thread=boost_thread \
COMPILED_BY="Beta41 (expires 2020)"
