The song is about the Spanish civil war, see [1]. I actually read the book by
Hemingway ages ago just because it happened to have the same title as the
Metallica song that I really liked. Then I got to the chapter on which Metallica
based their lyrics, and I realized it wasn't just coincidence :-)
