First try. Much to add but I still like to see where the photons and media
will flash before I turn them off and start with the all the tiny CSG
details, not to mention background and delicate radiosity.  I test drove a
new method for "painting" height fields with the scrolls on the outer ring.
I want it to look like bas-relief casting.  The challenge is to get the
same technique to work with the numbering for the scales on the latitude
ring and the pictures of the Zodiac on the (unshown) ecliptic band.
