Ok now I find that in the dialog you have to click on a font name first,
(by default there isn't a font selected as such), here the plot thickens.
I change the font settings, and it changes them on screen and saves the
new setting. But after working for a minute or two I discover that I've
made a bad choice of font so go back into the dialog box to change it and
all the other fonts have disapeared apart from the one that I selected
last time, so now I really am stuck.
I've tried typing other font names into the dialog box but the result is
that it doesn't chand the font (it keeps the one I selected last time).
