No reason. They're perfectly acceptable. * is usually used to indicate
emphasis; use it where you'd use bold or italics. _ is used to indicate
underlining. Some people use / to indicate italics, but that's fairly
rare except in some of the older Usenet groups where everybody's been
around since God was a child. Whether you want to use ' or " to quote
things is a matter of personal taste.
