No solutions, but I experienced the same problem. I have two XP-boxes at my
hand, only one has those problems. Don't know, what it is.
Just had to tell you: you are not alone.

As a workaround have you tried to change the priority of pvengine.exe in
taskmanager, while you are editing.

Haven't fixed it yet. I am going to use the task manager and watch whats
going on while I type.
I had a similar problem with anti-virus software which would delay reads and
writes to a file.
I am going to investigate that as well.

One other thing to note here, this problem does not exist until you render
an image.
If I just run PovRay and start typing, the editor keeps up with me as fast
and as
randomly as I type. After I "Run", this problem starts happening.

O.K. When using task manager, without any virus software or anything else
running,
pvengine varies between 8 and 22 percent and SystemIdleProcess takes up the
slack.

When I sit here and type randomly, every 32nd keystroke the pvengine task
jumps to 99%
and stays there for about 4 seconds. Then it jumps back to normal.

When not typing anything, just sitting here staring at the screen waiting
for something to happen,
nothing happens. pvengine is at 0% and SystemIdle is at 99% until I start
typing again. I have
waited as much as 60 seconds and still nothing happens.

It is as though the editor is keeping track of an "undo/redo" list of
commands and it updates
the command list every 32 commands ( a nice binary number ). However, this
only happens
after an image has been renedered.

Good Morning:
Maybe you should check for memory resident programs and disable anti
virus. You may also want to install a CacheBoost at download.com or add
more memory for your computer, for a fluid work you must have at least
256 MB of RAM. Is advisable that you run chkdsk and check for viruses. I
hope this help the both of you.

No solution here; I still have the same issue on 3 different systems.

I am not sure if the problem has been acknowledged by the programming
team yet.

The best clues to figuring out the cause of the problem have been
discovered by Edward Handrich and reported in earlier thread messages:
   - The lockups occur after a first image has been rendered, at every 32
characters typed
   - The lockup nails the cpu and lasts for about 4 seconds

Any chance that the problem will be solved in version 3.6, which should
be out soon?

What kind of processors are you all using? I use WinXP Pro on my home
computer and I've never had this problem at all. I've got a 1.7 Ghz P4 and
I've had no differences using the editor after rendering. (And I have both
the render priority and the GUI priority set to "normal")
