Hello again, it occurred to me that could be this too:<br>
<br>
1) Another cause of delay could be that you have a FAT32 File System as
your C: partition, and you have installed Office 95, 97 or 2000, the
problem is those versions Installs a Indexing program (You can see it
in the control panel, as an icon which shows a yellow ray in front of a
pair of black binoculars, its name is FastFind), it indexes ALL files
on your FAT32 partitions, to access files quickly, BUT to do so, it has
to index the files which takes a lot of time and work for the PC and
specially from the disk, this causes retard on all operations that
require disk access including loading Windows and programs, this index
is a few megs (4-6 MB) in size but it has to be loaded to memory so
this also takes time, this is maybe the cause that you feel a little
delay when you load POV-Ray for the first time. Note that this index is
constantly being updated by its memory resident creator, plus, if
windows unloads it and/or swaps it to to the page file it has to be
re-read it, that's why POV-Ray does not load fast when you reload it
after a long while. Said all this you should disable the program by
loading the Control Panel applet and select on the File menu "Close and
Stop", TWICE (is a Microsoft Program), and delete all the indexes..<br>
<br>
2) To avoid this and to have a more secure and fast partition you can
converted it to NTFS File System, the default File System of Windows
2000/XP, with the following text typed on Start->Run... : <code><b>convert</b>
<i>C</i>: <b>/fs:ntfs</b><big><font face="Times New Roman">, and
follow the instructions.<br>
<br>
Good luck.<br>

You should not post HTML-only messages to non-binaries groups (like this
one). (In fact, it's not wise to post any HTML at all to these groups.)

I think that I should warn you : when windows (98, XP or anyone else)
doesn't start, I use the Knoppix distribution (runable on a CD) on the
"sick" PC in order to connect it to another (like a laptop) ; the online
requirements are :
- CD ROM drive, and a BIOS able to boot on it
- a recognized ethernet card
- a LAN cable
And I'm able to cut/copy/delete/edit all the files I want.
BUT the hard disk must be working with a FAT32 to be automatically
configured.

That's why I don't convert my FAT to NTFS.

Bye

When the start-up of a program seems too slow, I think of a lack of RAM.
  You can have a look through the registry :
...\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
to find the programs loaded at start-up. Sometimes you find programs
that are loaded without your knowing it and you can clean it if they are
not meant to be run.

Best regards.

PS : Dialog in French possible if you are French-speaking, Marc
