finally, after a long delay caused by much work to be done for other
projects, I am now ready to announce the next release of my patch
_____________
StereoPOV 0.2
Stereoscopic Raytracing with POV-Ray
This patch enables some of the camera types built into POV-Ray 3.5 to
generate real 3D output by generating stereoscopic pairs of images.
The key feature of this patch is the ability to render the two halfimages
in a single raytracing pass, whilst sharing the results of lighting,
texture, photon and radiosity calculations.
Five built in camera types are "stereoscopically enabeled":
perspective, orthogonal, fisheye, cylindrical and spherical wideangle,
the latter beeing a new addition specifically designed to create
full range stereoscopic images of fisheye type.
NEW: - Now based on POV 3.5 sources,
- extended the "StereoCache" datastructure to support
light groups and photon data
- new stereo camera setup features
- heuristic to guess stereoscopic base (similar to the so called
"1:30 rule")
- many bugfixes, improved AntiAlias quality.
Sample images, documentation, source and
a windows executable is available at
http://stereopov.ichthyostega.de/
PS: I added more sample images to the webpage:
Experiments with splines, radiosity and media.
A "Tomtree". And of course an Iso in real 3D.
And I couldn't resist to trace Christoph Hormann's
BALCONY.pov in 3D.

First of all please read the cross-posting guidelines in p.a.f-a-q.

Looks interesting, the lack of vista buffer will lead to a significant
slowdown in a lot of scenes though.

You can do so but *please* render it with correct aspect ratio then!

At the moment, I can only use the web interface, because I am
behind a firewall (and have no internet at home at the moment).
I found no possibility to set the folluwup-to header. My apologies!

Problem is, I use a feature often refered to as "natural stereoscopic
window". For this, the direction-vector is no longer perpendicular to
the up and right vector. (converving optical axes)
Do you see any chances to get vista buffer working in spite of this?
For the non-standard cameras, esp. panoramic and "spherical", which
are rather important for me, I can't use vista buffer anyway.

Did I? If so - sorry!
I'll recheck this, when I am at home and make a new render.
Btw: I recently took stereo slides from the computer monitor.
Your scene looks quite impressive when viewed 3D on a 2m slide
projection screen!

I think I like it, but i'm not sure yet because i could not view the images,
so:
Where can i find a pair of red/blue glasses?
I tried to make them, but i could not even look trough them |-(.

You can get a free pair (just send them a self-addressed
and stamped envelope).
http://www.rainbowsymphony.com/freestuff.html
However, anaglyph is not the best way to view stereoscopy.
Check into stereoscope lenses, you can also learn to
"freeview" stereo images.
