Has anyone gotten Pov compiled and running on FreeBSD? If so, what
options did you use and did you have any problems?

Yes, 3.5. And no problems at all. What is your specific problem?

I really don't believe there is a problem yet. I'm using the configure
options as described by Ken Cecka in his 8/3/2002 post to this group.
It has always served very well with my linux builds.
I'm very new to FreeBSD, so I'm not sure if the same configure options
apply to both systems, though looking at them they seem fairly generic.
I think I'm missing something on my system -- probably some failrly
important lib, knowing me.
When I get back to the system, I'll post the error info when I try to do
another compile.
BTW -- How do you like running Pov on BSD? Do you have an opinion on
its speed?

I only compiled it on the old povray.org server (which uses FreeBSD) a few
years ago in order to see if it can be done. I didn't render anything fancy
with it.

Yes, using FreeBSD ports-collection. It automaticaly gets you everything
you need.
You can also get a binary from the packeges-collection, no need to
compile.

Umm, I did nothing more than the following:
$ cd /usr/ports/graphics/povray && sudo make install clean
I like it a little better than POVRay on Windows but that's probably
just my pro-Unix bias showing.
