We can try to stop them erupting in the first place. Alleviate the
pressure building up rather than letting it pop, drill tunnels close to
the chamber and fit slow-release valves to channel the gases along them;
identify and take out the 'key log' blocking it off so it pours out rather
than explodes. All possible just costs a lot of money and often requires a
decent warning period to allow the work to be done.

or it was spotted by a retired Spanish traffic warden, of course then
someone had to take the trouble of writing it up as if it was important ;-)

The show would be pretty short:

Host: "How can volcanic eruptions be fought?"
Prof: "Not at all."
Host: "Thank you for the interview."

Heh.

	It's been way too long since I saw that movie. I really ought to
rewatch it, just for these quotes.

Blended rubbish. Lagavulin, Glenmorangie: those are real whiskies. :-)

Thanks. This would make a cool movie. Britain is faced with no air travel (or
astronomy) for a century and insists on drilling big holes all over Iceland. Big
fight. For many other parts of the world, life goes on with little change.
