In the history of arcane GUI-design blender has surely a special place. It
is the #1 on my fecal roster of terrible, non intuitive GUIs.

And yes, one >can< achieve nice things with it. That does not improve my
opinion of this GUI a gnat.

I guess these take a little more than just time to learn the tools... ;)

"Photoshop" doesn't exactly scream "paint program" for that matter....

GIMP can be used for many things.

Yes, I agree with that.

Sorry. As to the question "why do this?": the customer is always right.

If you want to enjoy the luxuries of life, like food, warmth and shelter,
you soon learn this rule. Customers want to see their respective ideas
realized, to the point. That's the long and short of it. Sad but true.

And you thought rendering this in POV-Ray was slow!

I have been using paint.net for non-photo-manipulation tasks lately. That
too is fairly nice, if the limited power it has is sufficient for your needs.

Sure. Go browse MySpace if you want to see what horrifyingly bad web
design looks like...

(Special mention to the teenage girl who's profile page was pink with
red writing, with animated red hearts continuously raining down on it.
Readable? What's that?)

You know, there are people who have drawn incredible things using JUST A
PENCIL. These people are revered as geniuses of their art. But, as far
as I can tell, no amount of looking at galleries or reading tutorials
will ever turn you into such a master craftsman.

For me, I'd just like software to be reasonably easy to use. E.g., the
Word picture editor is easier to use than Inkscape (although obviously
it has only a tiny fraction of the power).
