I'm not speaking of typical RTS games like C&C or Starcraft, where you
can build a factory in two minutes and mine enough to build a tank with
one man.

I'd like to try a game based on a reasonably accurate portrayal of the
different units and logistics involved.

Does anyone have suggestions?

Does it have to be of modern times? How about antiquity? For example:

Ok, I must admit that I haven't actually played this game, but it has
received such unanimously positive reviews that I want to try it some day.
Maybe you could be interested as well.

Oh yeah, they've done a number of different times periods - Medieval,
Shogun, etc. I tried the Shogun one for a few minutes, and it seemed
like the style I like, so maybe I should get one of these and put some
more time into them.
