Well don't do that! (as if anyone could avoid it)

Oh sure, *that's* what caused the injury. Sicko.

I found this on emporia.edu:

"o. flexor digitorum superficialis (flex, L: "to bend"; digit, L:
"finger or toe"; superficialis, L: "above")
- named for its action on the fingers and its location in relation to
other muscles that flex the fingers
- originates on the humerus; inserts on second digit
- flexes the wrist and specifically the second finger"

Since the second (middle) finger seems to be the dominant opposing digit
to the thumb, this muscle may in fact be the one causing you pain.

I won't drink that Nutra-Sweet stuff any more,
it causes me pains almost identical to what you are
describing.

1. Why would anybody drink Nutra-Sweet in the first place?

2. How can a random chemical cause muscle injury?

Because they don't want to drink sugar laden soft drinks and
manufacturers use it in diet drinks.

It is not a random chemical it is a specific chemical and see below.

http://www.snopes.com/medical/toxins/aspartame.asp

"A double blind study on the effects of aspartame on persons with mood
disorders was conducted by Dr. Ralph G. Walton. Since the study wasn't
funded/controlled by the makers of aspartame, The Nutrasweet Company
refused to sell him the aspartame. ... Aware that the experiment could
not be repeated because of the danger to the test subjects ..."

However, there isn't a citation where the reader can see the results of
this study for themselves. The insertion of 'funded/controlled' colours
the intent of the message to imply that Big Corporations are inherently
Evil and invariably bias a study in their favour just by funding it.
The other statement completely blows the comment out of the water, since
the FDA would certainly take seriously what could only be an epidemic of
the indicated symptoms, considering the widespread use of Aspartame.

I'm glad I don't drink the stuff, I used to as coke upset my stomach.
I stick to beer and mineral water for my fizz with the occasional
glass (bucket) of champagne.
Scary or what and why are you spelling "color" colour?

Pretentious snobbery, I guess? British spellings look more 'scholarly'.

I don't know about that, but it causes brain damage by interfering with
the passage of amino acids into your brain. Basically, there are so or
so amino acids, and the capillaries in your brain pass the amount of
each your brain needs. But nutrasweet turns into just one of those when
it crosses the brain/blood barrier, and your brain guesses it has enough
amino acids by just counting a few of them. Sadly, one of the ones it
counts is the one nutrasweet turns into. So your brain thinks it's
getting a balanced diet when it isn't, essentially.

  Helpful housekeeping hints:
Check your feather pillows for holes
before putting them in the washing machine.

I'm not a doctor, but the way I understand it is it blocks
the uptake of some essential nutrient to nerve bundles.
If you have minor (normally symptomless) tightening
of the Carpal ligament (from lifting too heavy of things)
that can pinch the nerves a little bit, then the combination
of Nutra-Sweet chemical blocking, and poor circulation
to the nerves can cause them to ache.

In my case when I stopped consuming Diet sodas that
had Nutra-Sweet in them I felt better... when I got
lazy about avoiding them and had a few drinks that had
Nutra-Sweet the symptoms came back for a few days.
